Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny signs new Arsenal deal
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new long-term contract at the club. The 20-year-old Polish stopper is currently third choice behind Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski but is seen as a future star. He had a successful loan spell at Brentford in League One last season and was impressive in Arsenal's 4-0 Carling Cup victory over Newcastle in October. "We have all seen his huge potential," said Gunners boss Arsene Wenger. During his loan spell with Brentford, Szczesny kept 10 clean sheets in 28 games to help the newly promoted side to a ninth-place finish in League One.
"It is a great feeling to sign a new contract with Arsenal and I am so pleased," he said. "The negotiations happened very quickly and it was easy." Szczesny made his full international debut in a 1-0 friendly win over Canada in November 2009, following in the footsteps of his father, Maciej, who played seven times for Poland. |
